I went to the restaurant and ate lunch. And then, I went to department store and bought a sweater and returned home.
te-form+imasu

2 Formal imperative; te-form +kudasai
このベッドを とどけてください。 
Please deliver this bed.
パスポートを みせてください。 
Please show me your passport.

3 Present progressive; be  ~ing
いま でんわをしています
I am calling now.
He is reading a book.
かれは ほんを よんでいます

4 Endurance, continuation, habit
ぎんこうに つとめています
